Research interests

Natural language processing, machine translation, information retrieval, language and multimodal resources, evaluation of linguistic and interactive systems.  See also my publication list, my Google Scholar profile, or my research page.


I graduated from the French École Polytechnique in 1995 and I hold a Masters in AI from the University of Paris VI.  I received the PhD in computer science and natural language processing from LIMSI-CNRS, University of Paris XI in 1999.  I have been a postdoc at UCSD and a senior research assistant at ISSCO, University of Geneva.  From 2007 to 2017, I was a senior researcher at the Idiap Research Institute, head of Idiap’s NLP group, and a lecturer at EPFL. I became a professor at HEIG-VD / HES-SO in 2017, teaching a variety of courses in computer science and natural language processing, along with continuing R&D in NLP.  In 2021, I was nominated as adjunct faculty (senior scientist) in the Electrical Engineering Doctoral School at EPFL.
